Ray Tango (Sylvester Stallone) and Gabe Cash (Kurt Russell) are both cops in different precincts of L.A. and in style. Tango is Armani suits and level headed. Cash is jeans and trigger happy. Both are excellent at their jobs, getting the bad guys and stopping the flow of drugs and illegal guns. That’s why the big bad guys pulling the strings go out of their way to frame the cops, paying off every witness and expert they can to get Tango and Cash behind bars. The two break out and go on the hunt to clear their names.
High action. There is no other way to describe it. If you love seeing people getting beaten up, then this will be the film for you. Great pacing, it isn’t long and drawn out, things happen quickly to keep you interested and dying to see the next big stunt.
If you like fast flying quips, then this is the film for you. Great script. Personal fave from the beginning of the film. “He thinks he’s Rambo.” Cop 1 says. “Rambo is a pussy.” Tango replies. It tickled my funny bone. A lot. Stallone and Russell play off each other perfectly.
If you’re a feminist, this has the classic prop girl that’s going to piss you off. Yep. Great story and script, but they just can’t seem to figure out how to have women in an action film unless they’re half naked and have no real meaning to the plot. Blame past generations for setting up this cliché that we can’t seem to get past in modern days and most will pan a movie that has female leads in a traditionally male dominated genre. Yeah, I’m not happy with that aspect of the action genre. But I do like this film a lot. Terri Hatcher plays the pretty girl, Kiki.
The one thing that Kiki does give us; she makes Cash cross dress and treats him like her bitch. That is priceless. Seeing Russell in pantyhose and a skirt, tehehe.
As an action film it’s worth it. Find it for the snorting chuckles you will have from the script. As something that’s going to change your look on life, look elsewhere. This is purely dedicated to kicking the asses of bad guys and flashing muscles. So if you’re into physical culture and want a perv, even though the actors are old enough to be senior citizens now, most certainly recommend this one. Another great Sunday afternoon watch.
