"Hello, Defence Recruiting. How may I help you?" He started off so nice and calm.
"Hi, I would like to change my preferences if that's all right? My Assessment is booked, so will I be allowed?"
"Yep. What would you like to change?"
So I told him.
Silence followed. And then, "No-one places a General-entry above an officer position."
I was taken aback a little. "Well, I'm not normal."
"Why do you want your first preference to be General-entry over officer?"
"Well, there are pros and cons for both, it's just right now the General-entry position is more appealing." I kept my answer purposefully vague, since I had yet gone through it all to work out a way of articulating the gut feeling I have for the job I'm aiming for.
"On Assessment you will have to explain why you changed," his tone was tense.
"I'm aware of this."
And that was that. I made the change of preference from officer first, now to second and a General-entry position as my first now. I could go on and on about the why and how I came to my decision (last night I literally wrote an essay on the why... I know why) but am I sure I have made the right choice? This change may even post-pone my Assessment (or so I have been warned).
All I can do right now is train. (5.4 today! I have moved on from the purgatory of 5.1)
I cannot control what the reaction is going to be to this change, I just have to wait and see what happens. I just hope that they will let me in so I can serve my country (it's the truth, yet saying something so patriotic makes me feel strange).
We will just have to wait and see.
