Babies are popping out everywhere. The main producers of such products happen to be kids my age. What happened to having a career or finishing university? What happened to having kids while in your thirties? Is this the new fad, kids in your twenties?
I cringe to think so.
To me the idea of having another dependent upon me at the tender age of twenty-two is frightening. I’m a baby myself and babies cannot have babies. Right?
Or is this a mental attitude? Maybe if I was older in mind I would like to have a mini me running around already... you never know and we never will because I don’t develop mentally that fast.
What is the point of having kids while young? Physically you can keep up, you are more fertile, you will be around longer to see them grow up and start their own families. Though this restricts your freedom as an individual, careers have to be put on hold unless they have flexible hours and rake in cash, the only people you will converse with will be other parents because your old childless friends won’t understand.
But I would like to pose this theory, do people have kids in order to right the mistakes their own parents made when raising them which in turn led to horrible decisions that the new parents would like to lead their kids away from? Hmm.
The meaning of family has never been constant. It could be a couple living together, children and grandchildren living with grandparents or aunts and uncles, single parent with a child. So it cannot be argued that having a child is to complete the family, that once you have found “the one” you have to have a baby and settle into the hum dum of domestic life. It’s a crazy idea but you could hold off for a couple of years.
This is not a rant against having kids. I just find it confusing that people my age are willing to take on such responsibility.
