I smirked as I brought the box out and placed it on the counter. “Jai, you are an absolute sweety... and I owe you for this.”
This... well that was a combination of letting me move in, helping to shift my bookshelves in, and being injured in the process and keeping it to himself until I swung at him and aggravated the injury, so I owed him big.
First thing though was to unpack all of my books, hang the pretty dresses that had been thrown across the neatly made bed, and move anything else into a spare space. Jai was probably holding back his inner OCD freak, letting me settle in before he went crawling up the walls with a spray and wipe bottle in one hand and a sponge in the other, a wild look in his eyes as he stared at my messes.
And there would be a lot of mess in the time to come.
So I cleaned, which was difficult as it was not part of my nature. I made sure that everything was put away, nothing was left out in the open as if it was an intruder. My tampons went into the second drawer in the vanity, next to his disposable razors. My shampoo and conditioner, the really good stuff, went into the shower onto the wire rack thing hanging over the shower spout thingy... the soap caught my eye.
Hmm, I’ve had showers in that bathroom and shared that cleaning product, the same one that had been oh so very intimate with Jai’s body. It had made me smell like him. I grinned like an idiot. From now on, that would be my smell. That along with the smell of my shampoo, so really it would become something different... I shook my head and moved out of the confined space where the chemicals that had been used to clean it spotless must’ve been messing with my head and making me ramble internally.
Once finished, I stood awkwardly in the hall.
I didn’t have work that day. No homework from uni or assessments that had to be completed ASAP. If I was at home, at my parent’s home, I would be spacing out in front of the television with some show or re-watching another movie. Or I would be reading. Or doing whatever mum had yelled at me to do.
My hands flapped out awkwardly. What was I meant to do?
“What are we meant to do for dinner?” I hurried into the kitchen. Yeah, that was something that had to be planned and executed correctly in the house of an adult couple. No one else was going to do it, well, maybe Jai would but that didn’t seem very fair.
I opened the fridge again and looked at what was available. Not much beyond the basics. The freezer had no meat. “What does Jai normally do?”
Every time that I had spent the night, Jai had ordered some sort of take away. And for breakfast, he at least had eggs and toast and the all important tea on hand.
So I had no idea how Jai normally lived. Did he eat out all of the time? With his slight belly that was growing that could be true. Or did he buy only exactly what he needed and that was it? Which was very inefficient.
“I am going to have to teach you how to shop Mr Jai.” With that in mind I snatched some paper and a pen from the counter in the corner and started to make my shopping list.
Hours later, the key rattled in the lock. “Honey, I’m home.” Jai smiled as he stepped through the door way.
I placed my book to the side and ambled over from the lounge. “Hello darling.” Leaning up, I kissed him hello. “Did you have a nice day at work?”
This was absolutely silly.
His hands came to rest on my waist and he took a half shuffle forward so that our bodies were touching. “It was alright.” He was lowering his head down, eyes half shut and lips puckered.
I dodged to the left. “Nope, no time for that.”
“What?” his eyes snapped open. “But I want a kiss.”
From the way his hands were gripping and releasing my waist and the rubbing motion of his hips against mine, I think he wanted a little more than one simple kiss. And he would get it if I didn’t stay on target. “We have to go shopping,” I stepped back and headed for the kitchen counter.
Spread across it was the catalogues from all of the supermarkets in town. In the centre was my shopping list. “What’s this?” he came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders and resting his chin on the crown of my head.
“This is how I am going to teach you how to shop so you will always have something in the fridge for dinner.”
“But I like going out for dinner.”
It felt amazing to have my back pressed against his chest, and even though it was a little annoying it was nice in its own way for his chin to be digging into my skull each time he flapped his gums. “I’ll make you a deal; if you keep this place clean and don’t ever give me shit about being untidy, and I know that there will come a day when my mess will drive you insane, then I will do all of the kitchen stuff.”
He was silent.
I turned around, forcing him to lift his head up and off of mine.
That’s when I saw the smirk. “So you will cook for me breakfast, lunch, and dinner, just as long as I keep doing what I already do and clean? What was it that you said when we were moving the bookshelves in? If the male in the couple does more around the house then they have more sex...” he trailed off.
I cocked an eye brow. “Really? That’s your logic?”
