It is not my intention to force anyone into giving me money (no pop up ads or cheesy sales here), I am simply trying to learn the best way to sell and promote the goods and services on offer; books to read for enjoyment, freelance writing services, and workshops. So I am prowling the different forums and reading every how-to-blog blog.
Give me a year and I might be able to tell you if any of it works.
And several places I no longer have links for (silly me for doing a clean out). They all repeat certain things, and on some topics they disagree on what people should do. Essentially, we have to make up our own plans, emlagulate the information we gather and tailor it for our personal journeys.
Things they all agree about;
Write good content
Offer what the reader needs, be it product or service
Free is your ally and your enemy
Engage your fans
That last part, isn’t really emphasised on the sites but it is implied. By being yourself and offering your particular skills and services then you’re winning on two fronts; unique content and personal satisfaction. You’d have achieved a success that those who changed themselves to fit a market and follow a trend will miss out on. You don’t have to change, you can be yourself and just do your thang and enjoy the moment.
Even though I am not making a profit, I still love every bit of writing and publishing (including the boring proofreading and stiff shoulders from being hunched over a computer for ages) it is great. So I won’t give up. I won’t say “if”, I will say “when” my writing can make me a profit, I will be happy dancing at the drop of a hat.
