Buttercup (Robin Wright) has lost her true love Westley (Cary Elwes) when the ship he is travelling on is attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts who leaves no survivors. In grief, she consents to marry the prince of the land, Humperdink, even though she knows she will never love him. Just before her wedding she is kidnapped... but there is a strange masked man in hot pursuit who won't allow anything bad to happen to her. Why is he so intent on saving the princess bride?
I have always loved this film. Nothing specific about it makes it stand head and shoulders above other adventure stories, but there is something about it overall that makes it the best. Cheesy it may seem in this century but remember when this was filmed it was cutting edge.
The one liners are perfect and are referenced through out pop culture; Doctor Who, NCIS, Ben 10: Alien Forces, and so on. The humour never interrupts the action or suspense, in fact it adds to it.
Of course everyone should watch this cult classic. Actually I think I might make this my date movie; if you don't like this movie then I will not date you.
"As you wish."
