However the story, or really stories, left me struggling. Romance I tell you, it kills me to read it. The explanation; I OD'd on romance novels back in high school and have not been able to stomach so much as a Mills and Boons since.
This is not the author's fault.
Romance to me feels formulated and so staged, I know what's going to happen before I even open the cover and look at the title page; boy gets girl.
Though in this story there are some interesting twists... that are followed by predictable solutions. this is a book for a person wanting to read family/work drama and finding one's soul mate. Sigh.
I did find it annoying that we had four main characters and would focus on one couple for a few chapters before being left with a cliff hanger as we jump back to the other couple. It was jarring. Perhaps instead of writing one long book two shorter ones might have been more beneficial to the stories and their dramatic progression.
I like Loretta Hill's writing, but I'm going to have to bid farewell to romance for the moment. Maybe I'll read something with dragons next.
